Look What the Cat Dragged In Earrings

This pair of pigeon heads is largely inspired by the little animals surrounding my rural home and the ones that have gotten caught by cats or foxes, only to have their body parts hoarded like treasure and left at the doorstep for their unsuspecting recipient to find.

I painted the pigeons with watercolor enamel over a base coat of enamel and then re-fired them to a glossy finish. I used mostly red beads --a mixture of glass and seed beads-- to mimic blood spilling out, and added a few freshwater pearls to represent maggots starting to creep their way out of the heads.

The ear wires are sterling silver.
