Become a member of The Exquisite Corpse Club! Receive a 4x6 “Exquisite Corpse” print every month, snail mail style. Each month’s print will be different and will be based on the exquisite corpse style of drawing (combining two seemingly unrelated things together to create a never before seen “creature” out of pure accident and coincidence). Prints will be of both drawings and collages I create based on animals I find and photos I take.
Some of these will be true to the style of the exquisite corpse, while others will use the idea symbolically and be a combination of different materials, photos and/or drawings to bring to life the scene or thing the subject animal makes me think of, or wish for them, when I happen upon them.
These prints will not be shared or sold anywhere else and are exclusive to this club!
Frame them, use them as bookmarks, send them as postcards, use in junk journaling or start a photo album of your very own…the possibilities for your soon-to-be collection are endless!
Spots in the club open up on the 1st of each month and close on the 16th. If you’ve just joined the club, please note, your first print will be mailed out the following month!
Please be aware, while some months prints will center around living animals, many will feature or be based on photos of deceased animals I happen upon. While they will be altered and added to, they will still be recognizable as what they are. Like a large overall inspiration of mine being the beauty or intrigue underneath death and darkness, a key point inspiring this project is the ability to take what many would think of as a “grisly” scene and bestow it with new and further meaning, or, entirely different context than what we typically think of when we label deceased animals as “roadkill”, giving you—the viewer and collector—an interesting scene or seldom considered narrative, and the animal a “new life” after death, transcending their middle-of-the-road resting spots and becoming, literally, an exquisite corpse.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
What is an exquisite corpse?
Exquisite Corpse is a sort of drawing game in which you fold a sheet of paper in half and draw something on the top half, extending its lines a quarter of an inch below the fold. You then flip it over so that the blank half is what is facing up. (The idea is to make multiple, or to trade them with someone else, so that you lose track of what you drew on what sheet!) You then draw something else on the blank side, connecting it to the 1/4" lines coming from the fold. The time has now come to unfold the sheet of paper, most times hilariously revealing this new creature created either jointly by you and a friend, or by yourself entirely, accidentally and with no knowledge of how the two halves would work together and what hilarious or bizarre narrative may ensue.
I first encountered exquisite corpses my freshman year at art school and they remain a favorite thing of mine!
What can I expect?
Every month in the mail, you will receive one 4x6 giclee print, made from a special (and secretive!) collage or drawing I make exclusively for the members of our club. Your print will be mailed to you during the first week of each month!
How can I join?
Spots in the club open on the 9th of each month and close on the 16th. Simply join the club when spots open and you'll become a monthly-print-receiving-member!
When will I be charged?
You will be charged when you join, and then, going forward, be billed monthly on that same day.
Will there be a tracking number?
No, unlike jewelry and print orders which are mailed out as packages and thus, receive a tracking barcode, your exquisite corpse club prints are mailed out in envelopes with stamps, the old fashioned way, to give the club a nostalgic feel as well as make it more affordable. Please allow about a week for your envelope to arrive in your mailbox.
What if my address changes?
If your address changes, simply update it in your account! Keep in mind prints ship out the first week of each month, so keeping your address up to date will help ensure you receive it! Feel free to reach out to me as well if you have a question about this or want to ensure your address has been updated.
Why don't I receive my print until the following month?
Each month’s print begins as a special piece of artwork made by me and designated for the following month. Next, prints are made from this in a quantity pertaining to the number of club members at that time. Because of this, if you join in, say, February, you will receive your first print in March, as the inventory for the February print applies to the number of club members as of January.
