When I found this squirrel, what stood out wasn't the blood and gore itself, but the fact that it had arranged itself around the squirrel like petals; I thought instantly of the shapes within vintage wallpapers and lace fabrics. While I'd encountered dead baby birds on the ground before, the frequency with which I found them (and even adult birds) during my year of living there was other worldly, often finding numerous on a single walk during springtime and early summer.
